Zell am See-Kaprun is a destination where almost everything works spontaneously. You need no internet ticket for the Schmittenhöhe, no reservation for Lake Zell and certainly none for the Sigmund-Thun gorge. You cannot reach the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs in your own car. The final stage runs on shuttle buses and an inclined lift, and that package is exactly what the guided option includes. The difference from a ticket at the valley station is the guide up on the dam wall — for the engineering and the history of the site, that matters more than it sounds.
