2. General information on data processing
We process personal data only within the framework of the statutory provisions (GDPR, Austrian Data Protection Act DSG). This statement explains the nature, scope and purpose of the processing.
3. Server log files
When you visit the website, information (IP address, date/time, page requested, browser) is automatically stored in server log files. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation).
4. Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we process the e-mail address you provide in order to send it. Consent can be withdrawn at any time (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
5. Web analytics (Matomo)
This website uses Matomo to measure reach. Matomo is self-hosted on our own server in Germany (Hetzner, Nuremberg); no data is passed to third parties and IP addresses are stored anonymised. The measurement itself runs without any cookie, on the legal basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in audience measurement). Only if you agree in the banner does Matomo additionally set a cookie with a lifetime of six months, which allows returning visits to be recognised; the legal basis is then your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165 TKG 2021). You can withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future: open cookie settings. Visitors with “Do Not Track” enabled are not recorded.
6. Assistant (schlaum ai er)
On the German-language pages an assistant sits in the bottom right corner and answers questions about the region from our own texts. It is powered by the schlaum ai er application, which is operated by the same sole proprietorship that runs this website (Martin Pletzenauer, address under point 1). No outside company is involved.
The assistant is loaded together with the page rather than only on your click: the button appears by itself. To do that your browser fetches the file widget.js from schlaumaier.com, which transmits your IP address to that server. It is located at Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, in the Nuremberg data centre. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering questions about the region directly on the page).
As long as you type nothing, it stops there: nothing is stored in your browser and no conversation is created.
Only once you ask a question is the following processed:
- the text of your message and the answer to it – deleted after 90 days
- the address of the page you asked from – deleted after 90 days
- a counter value derived from your IP address to prevent abuse – deleted after 2 days; the IP address itself is not stored
- a conversation id (
dmx-conv-…) in your browser’s session storage, so the assistant keeps the thread within the same tab. It holds nothing about you and disappears when you close the tab; it is technically necessary and requires no separate consent (§ 165(3) TKG 2021).
To produce an answer, the application transmits your question and the passages found for it to a language-model provider: Scaleway, France. Processing therefore stays inside the EU; nothing is transferred to a third country. Answers are generated by an AI and can be wrong or incomplete despite the sources given. Please do not enter personal data into the chat – the text is transmitted to the language model. The assistant’s contact form is not switched on.

7. Your rights
You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at).
