If you drive to Zell am See-Kaprun you need a valid vignette for Austria’s motorways and expressways. On certain sections an additional separate toll applies. This overview summarises what the journey costs in 2026 and what to watch for.

Vignette prices for 2026 (cars)

  • Annual vignette: 106.80 euros
  • 2-month vignette: 32.00 euros
  • 10-day vignette: 12.80 euros
  • Day vignette: 9.60 euros

The 2026 annual vignette is valid from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027, so 14 months. Motorcycles have their own, lower rates.

Sticker or digital vignette?

2026 is the last year in which the classic sticker vignette is offered; from 2027 there will be only the digital vignette. The digital vignette is tied to the number plate and can be bought online. When buying online, pay attention to the start date you select. If you are setting off at short notice, the simplest option is to buy the vignette at a petrol station shortly before the border.

Additional section toll on the A10 Tauern motorway

If you arrive from the south, for example from Slovenia, Croatia or Italy, you will normally travel via the A10 Tauern motorway. The section with the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels between Flachau and Rennweg is exempt from the vignette requirement but carries its own section toll instead: in 2026 that is 15.00 euros per single journey by car. The vignette is still required for the rest of the route.

Grossglockner High Alpine Road: its own toll

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a private toll road and is covered neither by the vignette nor by the section toll. It is only open seasonally. Details are in the article about the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Driving to Zell am See-Kaprun

Zell am See lies on the B311 and is reached from the A10 via the Bischofshofen or St. Johann im Pongau exits. From the direction of Salzburg the drive takes around an hour, from the direction of Villach about two hours. Kaprun is a further ten minutes or so to the south.

Tips for a relaxed journey

  • Apply the vignette before your first motorway entry, or book it digitally: checks are automated.
  • The sticker vignette belongs on the inside of the windscreen, on the left or behind the rear-view mirror.
  • Buying the A10 section toll online in advance saves time at the toll point.
  • On winter Saturdays the A10 around the tunnels is often heavily loaded, so setting off early pays.
