Hundertwasser’s Signature Style
Friedensreich Hundertwasser designed the concept of this artistic fountain, letting his characteristic colourful touch flow into every detail. For him, water was “hardly graspable, difficult to form” and for that very reason a precious symbol of our awareness of this vital resource. History and Origins
The idea for the Austria Fountain was born in 1996 on the initiative of hotelier Dr Wilfried Holleis, whose Grand Hotel stands directly next to the fountain. Hundertwasser passed away in 2000, but Holleis continued to champion the project’s completion with full conviction. The result is an enduring monument to art, friendship and the beauty of Austria.
