Pure adrenaline: the Freeride Trails at Kitzsteinhorn rank among the most spectacular mountain bike descents in the Alps. Starting at 2,500 metres above sea level at the Alpincenter, riders tackle four thrilling trails down through alpine terrain. Bike transport with the gondola is included in the lift ticket.

Four Trails for Every Level

The trail network around Kitzsteinhorn has something for every rider. The Maiskogel Trail (F2) covers 3.7 km with 381 m of descent and suits beginners thanks to its wide layout and gentle slopes. More experienced riders head for the Geissstein (F5): 3.4 km, 500 m descent, small jumps and banked turns leading into technical rock sections.

Expert Highlights: Wuestlau and Bachler

The Wuestlau Trail (F4) is the flagship at 6.5 km and 1,070 m of descent, blending soft alpine terrain with perfectly shaped berms and natural path sections. Technical riders love the Bachler Trail (F3) – 1.9 km of flowing curves and wide radii, though a short counter-climb demands real bike-handling skills.

Safety and Equipment

Helmets, back protectors, and gloves are compulsory on all Freeride Trails. The Alpincenter at Kitzsteinhorn offers bike rental and protective gear on site. Guided tours and beginner courses are also available for those new to freeriding.

Getting There and Gondola Operations

The starting point is the Kitzsteinhorn Alpincenter at 2,500 m. The gondola transports riders and bikes daily throughout the summer season. All trails begin at the valley station in Kaprun, which is easily reached by car or public transport. A valid lift ticket covers bike transport at no extra charge.

Freeriding in the Zell am See-Kaprun Region

The Freeride Trails are part of an extensive mountain bike network around Zell am See and Kaprun. After a trail run, the shores of Lake Zell invite you to relax with stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, or a leisurely stroll. Find out more about summer activities on our page Zell am See in Summer.
