It is the only hotel in the region that sits on a peninsula, which is the single fact that explains its rates: a private beach you reach without crossing a road, water on three sides of the building, and the town centre and the lifts both within a short walk. The peninsula is part of the town, not outside it: you walk out of the gate onto the promenade and into the pedestrianised centre. The hotel puts the nearest ski access at <strong>600 metres<\/strong> from the front door.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two access details will catch drivers out. There is a barrier that is <strong>closed daily from 4pm to 6pm in summer<\/strong>, and a retractable bollard system that only recognises number plates registered with the hotel in advance. There is no hotel transfer from the airport, but there is one from the railway station: the hotel will collect you from <strong>Zell am See station<\/strong> in its own hotel bus if you give advance notice, and that pick-up is included in the room rate. Zell am See is on the main line, so airport train plus hotel bus is a door-to-door option without a car.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driving, the hotel&#8217;s own directions are: from Germany via the Munich-Salzburg motorway, exit Siegsdorf, then Inzell &#8211; Steinpass &#8211; Lofer &#8211; Saalfelden; from Switzerland via the Inntal motorway, exit W\u00f6rgl, then Kitzb\u00fchel and Mittersill; from Italy or Slovenia via the Tauern motorway, exit Bischofshofen, then roughly 45 km on the B311. Per the hotel&#8217;s own list of included services:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Buffet breakfast, and afternoon snacks at the Imperial Caf\u00e9-Bar<\/li>\n<li>Both spa areas, and a bathrobe for the length of your stay<\/li>\n<li>Private beach access<\/li>\n<li>Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, plus an internet terminal in the lobby<\/li>\n<li>Pick-up from Zell am See railway station, with advance notice<\/li>\n<li>Fruit and spring water in the room<\/li>\n<li><strong>Summer:<\/strong> bike hire subject to availability, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, Nordic walking poles, and one complimentary hour of sailing tuition<\/li>\n<li><strong>Winter:<\/strong> a heated ski room and the hotel ski bus to the valley stations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charged separately: dinner as Grand Gourmet half board at <strong>\u20ac35 per person<\/strong>, breakfast on the day of arrival at the same \u20ac35, room service at \u20ac20 per order, e-bike hire at \u20ac30 per day, and EV charging at \u20ac0.60 per kWh.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the dining options?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five distinct places to eat and drink, several of them seasonal:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kaisersaal<\/strong> &#8211; the main restaurant, ground floor, with the Grand Caf\u00e9 am See and lake views. This is where half board is served.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Belvedere<\/strong> &#8211; a rustic Tyrolean parlour, <strong>winter only<\/strong>, also part of half board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Imperial Caf\u00e9-Bar and Seebar<\/strong> &#8211; coffee and afternoon snacks by day, live music and cocktails in the evening. The Seebar opened in 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pinzga Br\u00e4u am See<\/strong> &#8211; the hotel&#8217;s own brewery inn with a garden right on the water, <strong>summer only<\/strong>. Opened 2020, and the most regional of the five.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wine cellar<\/strong> &#8211; in winter the historic cellar hosts a five-course Gourmet Wine Cellar Dinner for a small group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dogs are allowed in the J\u00e4gerst\u00fcberl at a reserved table, but not in the main dining room.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What spa and wellness facilities are there?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two separate areas, and the split is the point: families are not sharing a sauna with couples.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Family Classic Spa<\/strong> &#8211; a panoramic indoor pool, a fitness room, textile saunas and a relaxation room, plus a lakeside wellness garden that opens directly onto the private beach in summer. Open to all ages.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adults-only GRANDSPA<\/strong> &#8211; on the fourth and fifth floors of the wellness wing, <strong>guests aged 16 and over only<\/strong>. It holds a Finnish sauna at 85-90 degrees, a herbal sauna at 54-60, a Turkish steam bath at 46-48, a brine steam bath at 43-45 and an infrared cabin at 40, with a fifth-floor spa terrace looking over the lake to the mountains. There are dedicated family rooms with bunk beds, children&#8217;s menus inside the gourmet half board, an ice cream counter, an indoor playroom, and a playground 100 metres from the hotel. Baby bathtubs, changing mats, potties and high chairs are provided free, children get their own bathrobes, and the in-room phone doubles as a baby monitor.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Kids&#8217; Club takes children aged 3 to 10<\/strong>, with crafting, painting, storytelling and games. Its published hours are seasonal: winter 20 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, Monday to Friday 4.30pm to 8.30pm; summer 15 May to 30 August 2026, Tuesday to Saturday, the same hours. They are allowed in the rooms and lounges and at a reserved table in the J\u00e4gerst\u00fcberl, and they are <strong>not<\/strong> allowed in the main dining room or in either spa area. They must be on a lead inside and outside the hotel complex, and Zell am See and Kaprun require a lead and a muzzle in public spaces, certified assistance dogs excepted.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dogs may swim in Lake Zell outside the public lidos, and are welcome on the Zell am See-Kaprun golf course. Ski access is 600 metres away.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do not rent skis from the hotel itself. It hands that to <strong>Sport Br\u00fcndl<\/strong> as its partner, with online booking that carries a 12 per cent discount and charges only for the days you actually use. On the mountain side, the Schmittenh\u00f6he above the town has 77 km of piste and 27 lifts, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/zellamseekaprun.at\/en\/ski-alpin-card-en\/\">Ski ALPIN CARD<\/a> puts all three areas &#8211; Zell am See, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, 408 km in total &#8211; on one ticket.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And in summer?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The peninsula is the summer product. The private beach and the lakeside wellness garden are on the property, and the pedal boats, paddleboards, Nordic walking poles and the free hour of sailing tuition are included. Beyond the gate: the <a href=\"https:\/\/zellamseekaprun.at\/en\/schmittenhohe-panorama-mountain\/\">Schmittenh\u00f6he<\/a> for hiking straight above the town, the lake itself for swimming, and the region&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/zellamseekaprun.at\/en\/lidos-lake-zell\/\">lidos on Lake Zell<\/a> if you want a different stretch of water. Golf is close enough that the hotel treats it as a house activity.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check-in, check-out, parking and the small print<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Check-in<\/strong> from 3pm on the day of arrival. <strong>Check-out<\/strong> by 10.30am &#8211; earlier than most, worth noting if you have an afternoon flight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Early check-in<\/strong> on request and for an additional charge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parking<\/strong> \u20ac12 per day, outdoor or garage; there are two underground garages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cancellation<\/strong> varies by season, from free up to 5 to 14 days before arrival, then 90 per cent of the total. Non-refundable rates are charged at 100 per cent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The casino<\/strong> &#8211; Casino Zell am See has been inside the hotel since 2015, so an evening out can be a walk downstairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to book a lakeside room, and where the deals are<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lake-view is not the default. The room categories run from Double Room Comfort through Superior and Wellness Deluxe to the Junior Suite, the Grand Suite and Grand Suite Deluxe, the Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth suites, and the Lakeside Residence &#8211; and only some of them face the water or have a balcony. A few have a private sauna, and the nostalgic suites with a fireplace and sauna sleep up to five. If the lake view is the reason you are coming, <strong>book the category by name and confirm the aspect<\/strong> rather than trusting a photo.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two routes, and they are not equivalent. Between 1884 and 1886 what is now the Grand Hotel went up as an annexe on the peninsula, then called the Hotel am See. Carl and Therese B\u00f6hm bought it in April 1887 and renamed it Grandhotel am See in May 1896, and it became a fixture for ministers, industrialists and the aristocracy.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then it nearly ended. After the Second World War the building was occupied by American forces and survived two major fires; in 1955 the Tyrolean ski instructor Franz Gramshammer bought the wreck for a symbolic one shilling. A major flood hit in 1965. Swedish investors bought it in 1980 and rebuilt it in the Wilhelminian style it had lost, and the Holleis family took it over in 1995 and began the renovations that produced the hotel you book today &#8211; the GRANDSPA in 2008, the Seebar and the casino in 2015, the Pinzga Br\u00e4u in 2020. It clearly has rooms that could host an event &#8211; the Kaisersaal above all &#8211; but we are not going to invent a capacity figure. Ask reception directly.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Review scores.<\/strong> Aggregate ratings move week to week and differ between portals, so quoting one here would be out of date before you read it. What is stable and checkable is the classification: four-star superior, on the record in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce hotel star register.
