Apr\u00e8s-ski has a reputation in Austria that does not apply to every region. Zell am See-Kaprun is one of those places where the clich\u00e9 is only half true. There is apr\u00e8s-ski, but it does not dominate the towns. Anyone looking for it will find it reliably. Anyone wanting to avoid it can do so far more easily here than in some neighbouring regions.<\/p>\n
As soon as the first skiers come down, the terraces at the valley stations and the huts along the final descents fill up. This is the classic apr\u00e8s-ski situation: ski boots on, music loud, drink in hand, sun on your face. This phase ends when the lifts close, because after that nobody else is coming down.<\/p>\n
It happens both on the Zell side at the Schmittenh\u00f6he<\/a> and in Kaprun at the valley stations of the Maiskogel and the Kitzsteinhorn<\/a>. Compared directly with Ischgl, St. Anton or Saalbach, the apr\u00e8s-ski scene here is smaller and more moderate.<\/p>\n Depending on what you expect, that is either an advantage or a drawback. Anyone wanting to party for a week straight is better off in Saalbach, which incidentally is reachable on the same ski pass via the Ski ALPIN CARD<\/a>. Anyone wanting peace and quiet in the evening without changing resort will find it in Zell am See-Kaprun without any trouble.<\/p>\n The afternoon after a day on the slopes can also be spent quite differently:<\/p>\n Apr\u00e8s-ski is no obstacle for families in Zell am See-Kaprun. The loud venues are clearly contained and acoustically unmistakable; you will not wander into one by accident.
